More Student Apartments Planned for University of Michigan

University Village will fill high demand for student apartment housing

Plans for University Village, a 26-story student housing project, were submitted to the Ann Arbor Planning and Development Committee this week.  Developer’s Dan Ketalaar and Ron Hughes plan to move forward as soon as they make it though P and D.  University Village, located on the Southeast corner of South University and South Forest, would offer 524 student apartments with 1,578 beds in a 726,000 sqft project.  Apartments would range in size from 340 sqft studios to 1,121 sqft four-bedroom units.

The project is planned to develop in two phases.  Two buildings, one 26 stories and the other 21, would be connected into one U-shaped structure.  Main floors are slated for retail - about 16,000 sqft in total.  The project is located on a total of 2.05 acres, 380 parking spaces and 302 bicycle spaces will be incorporated.

Initial response from the Ann Arbor Planning and Development office is good.  They believe there is a tremendous demand for the type of project proposed by Hughes and Ketalaar.  City officials are planning to review the project soon and expect it could be ready for submittal to the Planning Commission in as little as eight weeks.
