Mixed-Use Development: An Ann Arbor Buzz Word?
Blend Office Space, Retail and Urban Living Options and you start to see a healthy buyer demand
Waning are the days of the "enclosed mall", mixed-use developments have become popular all over the nation. Cities are aiming for higher-density and sprawling suburbs are turning into small urban centers. Mixed-use urban sites are efficient and can often be more profitable. Retail centers in combination with residential developments and office space provide the convenience and flair that many urban dwellers and businesses want.
Ann Arbor has been hit by the tidal wave of mixed-use development in the last few years. Projects such as the 4 Eleven Lofts near McKinley Towne Center will marry student housing and retail opportunities.
Health care is also a growing national concern and one that fits nicely into the development "mix". Rapid industry changes combined with an aging population have created a huge demand for specialized care facilities. Ann Arbor will soon see the new addition of the 11-story St. Joseph Mercy Health System Patient Tower. Developments in health care combined with mixed-use projects are currently happening all over the state of Michigan.
