Ann Arbor Raises Money for Affordable Housing
Ann Arbor’s Avalon Housing has recently announced a Gala Series aimed at raising monies to help develop and manage affordable housing options to support low income families or homeless with disabilities. The Gala will be held from November 6-10 and will include hosted dinners, speakers and events. Fritz Haeg, distinguished architect and landscaper and Judy Wicks, well known Philadelphia restaurateur will be headlining the series. Haeg’s book, Edible Estate, discusses creating edible garden landscapes instead of front yards which - an activity Avalon residents have been successfully trying out for awhile. There will be an edible landscape class offered at the Leslie Science Center - Haeg will be on hand for a book signing and following discussion at the Ann Arbor Library.
Judy Wicks, author of the White Dog Cafe Cookbook and recipient of the International Association of Culinary Professionals Humanitarian Award, will be sampling some of her delectable treats at Zingerman’s Roadhouse featuring locally grown and produced foods.
Some events will be available for sponsorship and others will require contributions to attend, even others will be free to the public. All proceeds will benefit Avalon’s sustainable communities. More information will be released on this event soon, it’s a great way to help support our community.

What a great program. I want to attend the edible landscaping class, it is an idea I have been toying with. Hopefully, they will have some tips for keeping deer from doing the eating! Thanks for the info.
