Most people do not think of Ann Arbor as being THE place for any water sports or yachting – it is seen by many as “inland Michigan” – but they would be wrong!
Ann Arbor has a chain of lakes not far from the metro area. 20 minutes from Ann Arbor are the Portgage Chain of Lakes.
The lakes are as follows: Little Portage, Big Portage, Tamarack, Base Line, Strawberry, Gallagher, Zukey and Whitewood. Big Portage is as large as 644 acres approximately 1 square mile.
Boaters are a friendly crowd and they like nothing better than to enjoy a great lunch or dinner – where could be better than Portage Yacht Club! Here there is a marina, store, restaurant and more.
Portage Yacht Club (PYC) is one of the oldest Yacht Clubs in the state of Michigan. Even if you are not a sailor the sailboats are beautiful to watch on Portage Lake and if you are a sailor here are the sailing events for the 2012 sailing season. The 2012 lineup of activities is for adults and junior sailors. There is a membership fee to belong to the club which includes the following amenities: A Park-Picnic Area; Modern Clubhouse; Beach Area; Volleyball; and Dining. Membership information.
