Fall Fun Just Outside of Ann Arbor at The Dexter Cider Mill

Dexter Cider MillFall Fun, just outside of Ann Arbor is at the Dexter Cider Mill in the Village of Dexter.  The Dexter Cider Mill, Michigan’s oldest, continuously operated cider mill was built in 1886.  The historic Dexter Cider Mill has been a favorite for apple producers and cider lovers well over 100 years.

Michigan’s Autumn nectar needs a sweet accompaniment; fresh, fried cider-mill doughnuts and a caramel apple are some of the old fashion favorites.  Yes, I will take a “hole” bag full please!  They have quick bread mixes, honey, apple jelly, ginger syrup, pastry and other goodies. Just swing by 3685 Central Dexter, MI 48130.  Hours of operation are generally from Wednesday – Sunday, 9-5 and in October, Wednesday – Sunday 9-6 pm but call ahead 734- 426-8531 to find out details and closing dates.  The Dexter Cider Mill peek season comes in mid October.

The Dexter Cider Mill, also, has a wine tasting area featuring Sandhill Crane Vineyards from Jackson, Michigan.  You might catch me sampling some of this local adult nectar.  Buy some cider and sit out back along the banks of the Huron River and enjoy the sights and sounds of this historic location with friends.

While you are in Dexter you can find other great places to dine and visit.  for instance, dine out at the Red Brick Kitchen and Bar, a great place to stop and enjoy a delicious meal as you travel home from work, shopping or a sporting event.  Take in a play at the  Encore Theatre in Dexter located behind the Dexter Bakery just off Main Street. The Portage Lake Chain of lakes is within minutes, just north on Dexter-Pinckney Road. If you like Sailing – then visit the Portage Yacht Club which is on the chain as well.  Fishing on the Huron River is also very popular for anglers.
