We all love to shop and as we have written before, Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor is the premier shopping destination for Washtenaw County and beyond. We have written briefly about Briarwood Mall before, but below (after some information to refresh your memory) we have the latest from what is one of the best Mall’s around!
Briarwood Mall was constructed back in 1973 by the Taubman Corporation and is the largest indoor mall in Ann Arbor with a one story one million square feet of shopping space. But construction over 35 years ago was not the start and end of the malls history, it has gone front strength, to strength! It is constantly changing and growing. In 2003 it received a $7 million update which included revamping the food court. In 2007 Briarwood Mall was gained by Simon Properties. The anchor stores at the Briarwood Mall include: Macy’s, Sears, Von Maur, and JCPenney’s. There are also over 120+ other stores at Briarwood including Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Chico’s and much, much more! (Click here for more mall photos!)
The mall is interactive and has moved with the times and now has its own facebook and twitter page!
So many things are always going on at the mall – just this month Retailer Ann Taylor announced plans for 46 new store openings in the U.S. this year, including a new LOFT store in Briarwood Mall. Of course we have had an Ann Taylor store here for a while, but the new Ann Taylor LOFT store will join the other store at the mall. The new store will occupy 4,857 square feet of space in the JCPenny side of the mall.
For those of you who don’t know – LOFT differentiates from the Ann Taylor brand by offering a more casual and layered style. The Briarwood location is now hiring store managers and sales associates and its opening date is expected to be June 28 2011.
This is exciting news for the Briarwood Mall – it shows that the local economy is stable, the mall is on the grow and people want to visit as well as live in Ann Arbor. In fact, Briarwood Mall is surrounded by many other office and commercial properties and some of the housing complexes nearby pride themselves on their proximity to the mall.

Ann Arbor offers great access to the expressway to get to Detroit or beyond quickly. A hop skip and a jump away is Zingerman’s Deli, Kerrytown, Kerrytown Farmers Market, U of M campus, Medical Center and University of Michigan football games. Drive to Veteran’s Park for figure or hockey skating, baseball, sledding, swimming, or enjoy fresh produce at Plum Market. For some specialty items be sure to visit nearby Morgan and York with video. Ann Arbor is a great place to live – convenient for all, including the Detroit metro airport, which is around 30 minutes away!
