Ann Arbor Media Landscape is Changing

Recently the Ann Arbor News announced that it would be closing the doors in July.  While many Ann Arborites were shocked at the loss of a 174 year old icon, this is an all too common phenomena sweeping the nation.  However, as The Ann Arbor News closes it’s doors, new ones are opening via annarbor.com.

The future of media is moving online in Ann Arbor.  Although Ann Arbor is the largest city to date to lose its primary daily newspaper, citizens seem primed.  The Ann Arbor News will be morphed into a twice weekly print publication with a heavy online emphasis.  Ann Arborites are generally pretty web savvy – this change may even be preferable to some.  According to the content director, AnnArbor.com will be a site by Ann Arbor citizens for Ann Arbor citizens.  They’ll still be reporting in real time and using new internet mediums such as video.  Their first print edition will publish July 26th.

You can weigh in, head over to www.AnnArbor.com and vote for the topics you’d like to see included in the new online space.

Take a look at the future of journalism in Ann Arbor! Here’s a welcome message from Content Director Tony Dearing.
