Well Peach Mountain certainly offers that – it is the highest point in South East Michigan and is home to 700 acres of nature area as well as the University of Michigan observatory,
Peach Mountain is located north of north territorial Dexter, MI and is popular with those walking/hiking as well as those who are into astronomy! Peach Mountain is a mountain summit in Washtenaw County and climbs to 1,027 feet above sea level.
The observatory is part of UM and is used by the Astronomy Department and the School of Natural Resources and Environment and contains a 24” McMath Telescope. The area has been home to an observatory site since 1955 and has grown since to many radio and optical telescopes. Many at the University use the site including the “low brow” astronomers who are a bunch of hobbyists who have been using the observatory for years.
The area offers stunning views, great wilderness and a real rural feeling but in an area that is still close to the amenities of Dexter, Ann Arbor and beyond!

Drive toVeteran’s Park for figure or hockey skating, baseball, sledding, swimming, or enjoy fresh produce at Plum Market. For some specialty items be sure to visit nearby Morgan and York with video. Ann Arbor is a great place to live – convenient for all, including the Detroit metro airport, which is around 30 minutes away!
