Ann Arbor Michigan Real Estate: NAR Says Downpayment and Closing Costs Still An Obstacle To Homeownership
Despite the market turning and more people realizing the American Dream of home ownership, most still consider having enough money for down payment and closing costs to be the biggest obstacles to buying a home. According to the 2009 National Housing Pulse Survey by the National Association of Realtors.
The survey measure the feeling towards homeownership in the “real world” and interestingly, Two out of three Americans think job layoffs and unemployment are a big problem and eight in ten cite these issues as a barrier to homeownership.
However, this year the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit is helping the ever increasing number of people looking at purchasing a home. 83% of Americans still believe buying a home is a good financial decision and three quarters of those surveyed also believe now is a good time to buy a home – with even a third more renters shopping for homes than before!
Sadly. 7 out of 10 of those surveyed were worried about getting approved for financing – the simple answer to that is that you do not know until you try! Go to your local bank or mortgage broker and schedule a meeting – it will be the best use of your time to get a plan in place and know your options.
