University Village Green Build has Some Ann Arbor Locals Feeling Vertigo

Despite the fact that University Village would change the Ann Arbor landscape with its 26 stories, many local business owners are excited by the prospect of new development and potential business growth.  This proposed project would infuse 1,700 students to the South University Area.

Developers, Ketalaar and Hughes, are sensitive to environmental issues with a proposed “green” build plan that includes green roofs and the use of sustainable and recycled materials in construction.  They also hope to educate students with several live green system exhibits installed throughout the building.  Management also plans to share future consumption and recycling reports on a regular basis with student residents.

The apartments will be built in a loft-style and will be offered fully furnished.  First floor retail opportunities are plentiful with 15,000 sqft of planned space fronting both Forest and S. University Streets.  Both the former Bagel Factory and the Village Corner store would have to be demolished for the project to continue.

Amenities are planned to include:

  • three levels of underground parking
  • a lounge
  • fitness center
  • cafe area
  • pool table
  • computer center
  • rooftop courtyard
