Agur Taylor built this home 132 years ago and the above photo is from the Dexter Historical Society. I am thirlled to share this picture of
this exceptional home. Read Sellers’ love affair.
The Agar Taylor House: 6450 Dexter Pinckney Rd. Dexter, MI 48130
Our love affair with this house began 18 years ago when we first viewed this gracious now-130 year old Victorian lady which blends sturdy Michigan farmhouse with fanciful Italianate features, including the decorative brackets that support the extended eaves, the tall windows, and the hoods and frames around windows and doors. The top of the cupola contains the old farm dinner bell; you can picture the family coming in from the fields that made up the farm that was once here.
There are many things we love about this house, and at the top of the list are the large, open living areas which are a wonderful space for entertaining. Our home has been the scene of graduation parties, wedding breakfasts, welcome home gatherings for new grandchildren, and many family holiday festivities. The dining room accommodates a large group for Thanksgiving dinner, the front bay window is the perfect place for a Christmas tree and the gas fireplace provides a comfy gathering spot on a snowy day.
We love the fact that this is not a cookie cutter house. The ceilings are ten feet high and are highlighted by beautiful crown molding. Decorative panels under windows and elaborate window frames add to the elegance of the living areas. There are two stairways, two lovely bay window areas, 2 large porches and a quirky room arrangement behind the master bedroom, where several bonus rooms are accessed only through the master bedroom or by the back stairway. There is also a wheelchair ramp, bedroom and bath on the first floor, making the house accessible for houseguests with disabilities.
The 2.6 acres that surround our home have delighted us by providing plenty of space and opportunity for observing wildlife, outdoor entertaining and gardening. The back of our property adjoins Hudson Mills Metropark which has a new paved hiking-biking trail just a few hundred feet away from our property line. This trail is about 4 miles long and connects into the main trail system of the park. There is a park bench across the Huron River from which you can see our yellow barn in the winter when the branches are bare. Wildlife abounds in our neighborhood. The deer come to feed off the old apple trees in the fall. We have seen fox and heard coyotes. We have the usual woodchucks, rabbits, raccoons and possums. We’ve heard owls and the swish of bats at night when we sit on the patio. We’ve kept bird feeders going most of the time and have viewed cardinals, jays, blue birds, and even the rare indigo bunting and grouse. With the lucky new owners of our home we will share the secret locations of morel and wild black raspberry patches in the back part of the property.
We added the brick patio about eight years ago and this has enhanced our ability to entertain outdoors. We’ve had many a barbecue for friends and family and our teens and their friends have enjoyed bonfires in the fire pit. The patio and yard are places where we can usually see the Fourth of July fireworks in the Metropark. We also added the three stall barn/garage with its huge second floor storage area. The workshop grew out of an old carriage house and makes a good retreat for the woodworker in our family. We’ve had vegetable gardens most years. Many trees have been planted in the last 18 years. My favorite is the sour cherry trees which produce abundant crops and make great pies. My husband’s favorite is the equally productive quince trees which are harvested in the fall and make interesting sauces, preserves and liqueurs.
We welcome you to our home and hope you can envision your family creating your own traditions and memories in this very special place.

My Sellers emailed after their family applauded the photos… the house looks like a painting. The pictures are stunning, they said. Our team utilizes a photographer trained to achieve excellence.
Call us to experience this home pre appraised at $325,000 and pre inspected, just waiting for the right new owner….caretaker of this treasure. That is one of the joys of my Ann Arbor Real Estate career – finding the right buyer and seller match for this Dexter home.
