New Ann Arbor Development, Huron Acres, Proposed for 50 acre Site Near Arborland Shopping Center

Consideration for Huron Acres was submitted to the City of Ann Arbor earlier this week

Plans for Huron Acres were submitted to the City of Ann Arbor for consideration earlier this week.  The proposal for the 50 acre site includes restaurants, two four-story hotels, townhouses, and senior housing.  The developer seeks rezoning for a planned unit development.  Located just North of the Arborland Shopping Center, the property borders US-23, Huron River Drive and the Woodcreek subdivision.  Specifics of the proposed plan include:

  • Two hotels with a total of 240 rooms
  • Two restaurants
  • 24,000 sqft of retail space
  • 140,000 sqft for assisted and independent living facilities
  • 58 single-family townhouses
  • Open space with a pond and walking paths

The property is currently owned by Peters Building Company of Saline, but is planned to be sold to Bacall Development via an option.  Developers have had interest in the hotel space as well as inquiries from a movie theater, health club and a congregate care business.

The City of Ann Arbor intends to approved mixed use zoning for the parcel if vehicle access through Arborland to Washtenaw Avenue is addressed in the proposal.  They have also stipulated that the section of the property containing woodlands and wetlands should be protected.  The current proposal addresses both issues favorably.  The commission is on schedule to consider Huron Acres within the next two months
